Volunteering, Eavesdropping, and Autumn

So, today i went to go volunteer at the local church.

now.... let me stop here, for a second :P just as a reminder: i am not religious, at all- i rather... dont like religion tbh. the reason i volunteered is because, in order to graduate highschool, along with the needed credits, every student must have 40 hours of community service.

so... i volunteered to get my community service hours, and the whole time (it was about 3 hours) i washed dishes. the church put on some lunch i guess. i dont know why though.

i was talking with one of the adult women who was in the kitchen with me, and we were talking about the highschool i go to and whatnot, and she asked me if i was on the football team. lol. i told her i wasnt, and she seemed surprised, and told me "you look like you would be"

tbh, i've never had anyone ask if i was on the football team before. usually people ask if im on the basketball team. lol (im 6'1 / 185cm)

also, the minister- lol... he was interesting. to put it frankly, he was stereotypically gay. lol. he had a "gay" voice, and was very, very outgoing. i didnt really talk to him though, i just heard him talking to the ladies in the kitchen with me- and boy, i was sure he was gay. lol

on a different note, i wanted to write about something that happened last week which never fit into a post. when i was in the library during my spare period, i was (sorta trying) to do work (reading the text book), but there was a group of girls sitting near me, and they were talking and gossiping, lol so i listened to them for most of the time. mostly, two of them were talking to the third about her boyfriend. the other two dont really like her boyfriend/that she's dating him.

anyways, the interesting bit i wanted to post about, was at one point, after some talking about the relationship, and hints the the two other friends didnt like it, the 3rd girl said she didnt understand why they dont like him, then one of the other girls, in a monotone, half/sorta whisper, said "because he's a faaaaaaaaag" then, like right after, the second girl said something like "*gasp* oh no, dont use that word. it's really mean".. then the girl who said it agreed, and again tried to explain (properly) why she doesnt like the relationship..... that made me happy ^_^

and lastly, again, on a different subject... im REALLY liking fall :D

my favourite seasons are autumn, and winter.

there are a few reasons for this. one being the clothes. i really like wearing lots of warm clothes, (and i loathe wearing little amounts of clothes like shorts and a tshirt) so in winter, and partially in fall im able to do this.

i just find the atmosphere of fall to be rather nice, tho i dono why lol. and i LOVE all the colour with the leaves changing colour, and the slight, slight nip of the wind on some days, and the smell in the air in fall, and the weather, i really like :) the other day when i was waiting for the bus, it was -2C (28F) and i was absolutely loving it :D

lol, anyways, i really like fall (and winter), but most people seem to find that odd. lol. oh well :P

i think soon i might be changing the colours on my blog for fall :P (tho, i think its a bit late, so maybe ill go right into winter colours)

A gay minister - whatever next!

There used to be a saying in England, you know, about vicars and priests and so on - that their main interests, apart from God, were steam trains and boys!

Of course it's silly - but there's always something starts these saying's off and there's plenty of evidence that the first son went in the army, the second into the law and the third (or the gay one if such there was) into the church!

Many will deny this: but of course, the thing about choirboys and the vestry is also legendary.

I should think you'd be far too old now for such goings on and I'd never say that most of it ever did anyone any harm anyway.

It's just funny how these sayings grew up. Maybe had some basis in what people thought - if not in reality!

I love gay priests-- they perfectly embody their hypocrisy-- a walking contradiction.

Thats AWESOME about that girl that said 'fag' was really mean. I don't know if the same is true everywhere else, but amongst middle school kids here (in the south) 'gay' is the catch-all word for everything bad. "That was gay", "This is gay", etc. It's used for everything and it drives me nuts. I think its losing its pervasiveness now (hopefully), but when I used to manage the theatre, that was all that people would use all the time and I would call them out on it every time: "how could that shirt be gay...do the boy shirts prefer to only be with other boy shirts" etc.

And yep fall is the best-- I particularly like the cool breeze right around dusk. It's just so pretty and invigorating.

Much Love,
Steve

Volunteering when you're forced to is often less than fun. :-/

Interesting tidbit about the girls, hehe. Hmmm, I haven't heard anyone say "That's so gay" in a LONG time. A tad curious considering how conservative my class is.

I like fall too. I love the color changes. But I intensely dislike most of winter. Snow is nice, but I'm anti-cold. I love late spring, when everything's starting to turn green again and the world renews. Sometimes summer is too hot.

If it was a United Church (which is a pretty queer-positive denomination), then a gay minister is no big deal. (I think all of the people that I know who are going through for the United Church ministry right now are queer.) It's pretty accepted in a lot of Anglican churches too. And from what I've seen, it's almost mandatory for church organists or music directors to be gay. :)

I love the fall too, largely for the colours. I can't say that I'm a big fan of cold weather. It's nice at first, but by mid-January, I'm ready for the return of summer. In any event, I'm enjoying the current fall weather here in the GTA, because it feels more like late September at the moment.

Cheers,

Bruce

Yah I know what you mean, with the weather. :)

Gay priest? Hm, I wonder how much he 'actually' knows about what he stands for. Good to see change though :)

Try being 6'3" and a larger frame. Every year, someone tries to recruit me onto an (American) football team. And every year, I remind them that football in high school is the reason I can crack my back four different ways. ;-P
